Five hot Chicago mamas-to-be prove that you can be pregnant and stylish. Tips ahead!
Samantha Saifer Berngard, Partner, Boldface Co.
Number of weeks: 28
Gender of the little nugget: Boy
Cravings: “Sweets! I have never had a sweet tooth, and now all I want is sugar and chocolate. I learned early on to stop indulging in everything I craved though. There is a healthy substitute for everything. I was going to Café Gelato every single night for a large waffle cone with chocolate until I realized that I would be much better off buying Skinny Cows. I was also craving carbonation and quickly switched from Sprite to La Croix.”

Cameo the Label dress, Renvy shoes.
How have you adapted your wardrobe during your pregnancy so that you are still maintaining your style?
“To be honest, I am still wearing the same brands and some of the styles I have always loved. I am trying my hardest not to sacrifice my individual style, but keeping in mind certain cuts and fits just won't work anymore. I think it is so fun to have a bump to dress! I have yet to buy anything maternity (except for jeans) and hope to avoid it for as long as possible. Being pregnant in the summer is the best, because I can go for the tight/fitted or bohemian flowy dresses and not worry too much about things that hug the waistline like pants and sweaters.

“I also choose not to sacrifice my heels. They make me feel sexy and even though I can't wear them for long periods of time — I plan on wearing them pretty much up until delivery. They continue to be my number-one favorite accessory.”

What was the hardest change for you to get used to?
“I can't wear crop tops! My favorite trend right now is a crop top paired with a high-waisted, mid-length skirt. I die every time I see girls sporting this look. No matter how I spin it, it just won't look good on a woman who is seven-months pregnant — sorry Kerry Washington!”
Jeannine Benoit Adams, Content Marketing of Gyro Agency; Founder of Gemma & Jet.
Number of weeks in: 34
Gender of the little nugget: Boy
Cravings: I’m the most boring pregnant woman ever! If anything, I’ve had a bowl of fruit nearly every night before bed since I found out I was pregnant. The funny thing is, before I was pregnant, I used to eat a bowl of strawberry ice cream as dessert nearly every night. Now, I don’t want it at all!”

Luxaby Baby & Child dress, Zara shoes, T&J Designs necklace.
How have you adapted your wardrobe during your pregnancy so that you are still maintaining your style?
“Luckily, I’ve still been able to keep my sense of style while pregnant. While some days are harder than others when I’m standing in my closet, it’s also been a fun challenge to put together outfits during this time of my life. Now, instead of pairing my favorite blazers, jackets, and vests with denim, I’m layering them over fun dresses.”

What was the hardest change for you to get used to?
“Pre-pregnancy, I was a skinny denim, loose tee, fitted blazer, and great pair of heels kind of girl. But, lately, pants are just not an option. Maternity pants are just not comfortable for me, so dresses for every day have been my go-to. Thank goodness for warm weather!”
What are three key pieces that every pregnant woman should invest in and why?
1. Transitional dresses that go from day to night.”
2. “A good pair of heels that are a little bit chunkier and offer more stability.”
3. “Well-made, long-and-lean, neutral-colored tanks tops to wear underneath your layer of choice.”

What are a couple of dos and don'ts for dressing fashionably while being pregnant?
DO: “Layer with a good blazer, jacket, or vest to help pull an outfit together.”

DON’T: “Skimp on comfort; I attempted pre-pregnancy jeans way too late in the game and ended up with an imprint of side-seams on my legs once I was finally able to peel them off after a long and incredibly uncomfortable day of work. Big. Mistake.”

Luxaby Baby & Child dress, Converse shoes, Old Navy jacket.
Corri McFadden, Shop E-Drop Off
Number of weeks: 38
Gender of the little nugget: Girl
Cravings: “Avocado toast and watermelon with sea salt.”

Isabella Oliver Vienna dress, Kenzo shoes, Chanel bag, Jules earrings, Jennifer Zeuner ring, Farone Mennella engagement rings.
How have you adapted your wardrobe during your pregnancy so that you are still maintaining your style?
“I define my style as rocker-chic. I’ve kept with that during my entire pregnancy, incorporating a lot of black, long maxi-dresses, and graphic tees.”

What was the hardest change for you to get used to?
“The challenges would change each trimester along with my bump. One day, a boyfriend tee fits great, and the next day it fits like a tiny tee! I found it’s important to have options in my closet for when meltdowns occur. My best advice is to embrace your body and keep true to your personal style and your sanity will follow.”
Gia Lee, Fashion blogger behind Dress Up Files
Number of weeks: 21
Gender of the little nugget: Girl
Cravings: “Really ripe fruit and juicy steaks.”

ASOS dress, Celine tote, Loeffler Randall shoes, Pamela Love necklace, Hermes bracelet, Rachel Zoe ring.
How have you adapted your wardrobe during your pregnancy so that you still maintain your style?
“I continue to follow the runways and magazines and just figure out ways to make inspiring looks work around my growing midsection.”

What was the hardest change for you to get used to?
“Finding ways to flatter my large-and-in-charge pregnant body. (I usually gain an excessive 50 pounds with each pregnancy!)
What are three key pieces that every pregnant woman should invest in and why?
1. “A fitted black mini dress. You'll wear it layered under everything from a chambray shirt and Chucks to a moto jacket and booties. It will last you your entire pregnancy, and you'll likely wear it multiple times a week. I own four in different colors and patterns — stripes are great!”

2. “A cocoon-style open cardigan. You can throw it over anything from cutoffs and a blouse to that favorite tank dress. I love the cocoon shape which does a brilliant job at covering up all your chunky bits while still remaining really flattering to the figure.”

3. “A smock dress. They're all over the place this summer, so you'll definitely fit in. And, they're so roomy that no one will even know you're pregnant until your third trimester. Bonus points for being super comfy and breezy for those sticky summer days.”

What are a couple of dos and don’ts for dressing fashionably while pregnant?
DO: “Stay true to your personal style. I find that many women get pregnant and start dressing very matronly. Just because you're pregnant, it doesn't mean your hemlines need to drop to the knees.”

DON'T: “Wear anything too uncomfortable. Pre-pregnancy, I've put myself in suck-the-life-out-of-you undergarments and heels that send sharp shooting pain up my legs and thought it all worthwhile. But, when you're pregnant, give yourself (and the little one inside you) a break.”

H&M dress, Urban Outfitters cardigan, ASOS boots, Alexander Wang bag, Vanessa Mooney necklace, Glamrocks and Cartier rings.
Maria Ponce Berre, Photographer
Number of weeks: 37
Gender of the little nugget: Girl
Cravings: “Coconut water and icing.”

Azeeza jacket, Vince tank, Belly Bandit leggings, Brian Atwood shoes, vintage jewelry.
How have you adapted your wardrobe during your pregnancy so that you are still maintaining your style?
“The main pieces I've added to my wardrobe are form-fitting dresses, shirts, and high-waisted leggings. My goal throughout pregnancy was to accentuate the bump rather than mask it. I tend to wear/buy mostly non-maternity clothing like blazers, jackets, and button-down shirts to layer over my maternity basics.”

What was the hardest change for you to get used to?
“The biggest adjustment to maternity style for me was getting used to over the stomach leggings and jeans. The styles that went under my bump cut into my hips in an unflattering way, so the super high-waisted pants were my only option. Now, I love having the additional layer and support.”
