Pat Olson is a Door County native and nationally-known artist, author, teacher, designer and business owner.“I love to paint. I love the colors and the process no matter what medium I’m using. I’m currently painting in acrylics, pastels, oil pastels and most recently oils and I enjoy them all. My favorite subjects are still lifes and florals. I also paint several humorous Door County scenes each year, such as people on the beach and vacation activities. I like to make people smile when they look at my work. I’ve been doing art my whole life. I won my first art prize at the Door County fair when I was in kindergarten. Now that I am eligible for Medicare I love it just as much.” — Pat Olson She has been doing art her whole life. In the 1970s she owned a retail art business showing her work and the work of others. At about this time she was commissioned to write a how-to instruction book on how to paint her whimsical art. This turned into a long relationship writing over 100 instruction books and magazine articles. She traveled all over the United States teaching and demonstrating her techniques. This led to signing with an international commercial licensing agency and designing for the gift market which she did for ten years. She also had a long relationship with Better Homes and Gardens working on special publications. During Pat’s long and varied career she has used a variety of media and developed a range of styles.In recent years, Pat’s fine art paintings have been juried into shows at the Hardy Gallery in Ephraim, the Miller Art Museum in Sturgeon Bay, and the Secura Insurance Show in Appleton (all in Wisconsin). Pat’s fine art work can be seen frequently at fairs. She has recently shown her artwork at the Hardy, the Miller, the Peninsula School of Art, Richeson Gallery, and the Trout Museum in Appleton. Currently, Pat is working with Art Licensing International, Inc. in Vermont to design for the gift market.
